Welcome to my blog page! I’m Nikola but I tend to go by Niki, I’m 19 and I think that this project will showcase who I am as a person, my way of thinking and what messages I want to prevail forward. Within this unit I want to explore who I am as a person and really try to put my best foot forward when it comes to building on my creativity! I’d say this is a very personal project so I hope you enjoy!
Creative Writing
Social media.
It’s a social construct created to empower, destroy and mold our society.
I hate social media, it’s something that has always been on my mind ever since my mental
health declined, all it does is tear apart years of joy and happiness, sure it may make for a
good communicator between families and friends, however, in the long run society has
created a time wasting monster, all we do is scroll… and scroll… disconnecting more so
younger generations from today’s in-person interactions. I may have a faulty view on social
media as when you have a disorder like OCD in my case, you purposefully use it against
yourself.
Finding ways to feed the OCD demon within by researching symptoms of all kinds of
diseases, looking up negative information on TikTok, Instagram. You name it, it’s truly
exhausting.
I sometimes do wish the world would stop developing for a second… technologically of
course. Maybe then we would all have a more positive outlook on life, the media has
become such a complicated outlet. You do one thing; may haps sharing content you want
to put out to the public, create a diary-like cluster of video for your YouTube, people will
hate, people won’t hate, in fact some may love what you’re putting out there, and it may
seem a little hypocritical creating this blog post which could be considered social media
but sometimes all you need is someone who understands the way you think, the way you
put yourself forward.
You may think there’s no way I’m writing this and have never posted online, of course I do!
It’s almost in most young people’s nature to post online, I’ve had multiple accounts on
YouTube with various content and I can indefinitely tell you that my older content when I
was around 10, would have been when I viewed social media as entertainment, but now..
well it’s simply brain-washing but there’s only so much we can do. I guess what I try is to
keep a diary almost, I love to create, it’s always been a part of me whether it is through
media, art, performance. So I won’t be going completely offline anytime soon, but from
time to time it’s nice to disconnect.
I noticed in people like my sister, who is chronically online that she will completely enable
selective hearing when she’s on her phone, I’ll be talking to her but it takes a slightly longer
time for her to respond. I guess it’s a thing of this generation but I do hope that future
generations will take this under their wings and make it less of an issue of the future and
more of the past. It’s a hate and love relationship, social media and I but I guess…
Sometimes it’s better to just stay offline.
